Sharing Observational Astronomy ....
As an astronomer I enjoy being able to share the wonders of our night sky to anyone who will stand still long enough to look or listen.
I have a fairly active life but I always try to find time to visit a school or a group to hold a star party.
This year I've held and will be holding many more free public astronomy nights within Toowoomba (mostly at the University of Southern Queensland), where you can come along and look through a telescope and see for yourself some new and amazing sights.
It won't be the same as travelling out of the city, away from the city's light pollution, to a dark sky site. You will however get the chance to look through a telescope and talk with someone who can answer most of your questions about the night's sky.
Saturn is in the evening sky and will be a great sight for all who take the opportunity to come along.
I will be posting details about some of my public stargazing events (both past and future) so keep an eye on these pages too, especially if you've had your photo taken on one of my nights.

This year (2009) is the International Year of Astronomy.
Activities this year will include more public stargazing nights at the University's on-campus observatory,
some daytime solar viewing with specialised white-light and Hydrogen-Alpha filters,
hopefully an open night at the Mt Kent Observatory just outside Toowoomba (dependant of funding),
and some astronomy talks and activities.
The next night of viewing in November is yet to be finalised.
A night at the beginning of December will focus on the Moon. Lets get up close and personal with our nearest neighbour.
